Seven years ago I was on Yakima City Council and we were looking for ways to revitalize downtown.  We set aside 100-thousand bucks to be used by various groups with ideas for events and activities for downtown.

The Town Square Media group of radio stations where I work came up with the idea of the Downtown Summer Nights Concert Series and it has grown bigger and better each year to the point of being a regular summertime Thursday evening feature for our city

And it's back - Downtown Summer Nights Concert Series returns to Historic North Front Street this Thursday, June 13th.

A city news release says "the 2019 series will kick-off Thursday, June 13th, with Rafael Tranquilino, a blues guitarist from the Seattle area, followed by The Olson Band, which burst onto the country music scene in 2013 when it won a national songwriting contest and was introduced at the Grand Ole Opry."

The season features ten consecutive Thursdays -except for the 4th of July-  with 20 acts playing from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The only exception is July 4th, when there will be no concert.

The event is free and open to all ages.

The Downtown Summer Nights website – www.downtownsummernights.com  – includes a complete schedule of musical performers, information about how vendors can sign up for booth space, and other news about the series.
