Iowa Department of Human Services Director Jerry Foxhoven was allegedly forced to quit his job because of his obsession with Tupac Shakur.

The resignation came just days after he sent an email to more than 4,000 employees suggesting they listen to a 2Pac song to celebrate the later rapper's 48th birthday. This prompted many to wonder if the two events are linked. The mass email also included a photo of 2Pac smiling alongside a quote that read, "Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are 2 steps ahead."

But according to a government statement, Foxhoven's resignation has nothing to do with the email. “As the governor has said, a lot of factors contributed to the resignation of Jerry Foxhoven and now Gov. Reynolds is looking forward to taking DHS in a new direction,” a spokesperson said.

“I’m a 66-year-old white guy from the Midwest who likes rap music, who likes Tupac! I always try to assume the best of everybody, and I can’t imagine that [the governor] would base her decision on the Tupac incident… If this is the reason, I’m really disappointed," Foxhoven told NRP.

The timing of it all has definitely raised a lot of eyebrows, which has Twitters users pretty convinced Foxhoven's love for 2Pac was the reason why he lost his job.
