California is known for having some of the strictest gun laws in the entire country and officials claim it's the reason California has one of the lowest firearm mortality rates in the country.

Gun violence in California

According to a Gun Violence Data and Research report from the State of California Department of Justice, California is 44th out of the 50 states for firearm mortality in the country - one of the lowest in the country. According to this same report, only Hawaii, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, New York, and Connecticut have lower firearm mortality rates.

They also highlight that Californians are "25% less likely than citizens of other states to die in a mass shooting."

California claims that these trends all began when California started cracking down on its gun laws.
