Streets We Love to Hate to Drive in Yakima WA
Just call me an angry man driving with fists in the air or Skeletor, because there are some streets in Yakima that driving on them makes me so livid, I avoid them at all costs.
Case in Point: YAKIMA AVENUE! If I'm in a hurry, I hate driving down this street with a purple passion. Why do our traffic lights only last Green for .5 seconds before turning Red again?
(See the full list of Yakima street complaints that we love to hate below. I’m willing to bet that you feel the same way I do about them, too. )
The reasons we hate these streets so much comes down to a simple 3-pronged irritation: the traffic lights, the potholes, and the consistent backed up traffic for no good reason.
It’s not that I am anti-traffic lights; I’m just anti-the "Stop! Start! Stop! Start!" ones.
I work near the corner of S 40th Ave and Summitview and often need to drive down 40th to get to the freeway. What should take me maybe no less than a 2-minute drive automatically becomes a 5 to 7 minute journey because of all the traffic lights and traffic. Sometimes, it takes up to TEN minutes to get from here to there!
It’s quite maddening.
I'm not all angry vim and vinegar, though. The streets I love to drive on in Yakima put me in a good mood after dealing with the h*llholes of the other ones. I’m talking about streets like Fruitvale Blvd, which feels like smooth sailing and BLISS after driving in long lanes of traffic on S 40th Ave.
I also don’t mind driving up the whole of Lincoln Ave, especially after fleeing the fork in the road near S 7th Ave, past Eve’s Garden. Despite having traffic lights on Lincoln, they aren’t frequent and the traffic seems to flow smoothly and quickly every time I am there.
Perhaps it might be best if I reach out to the Yakima City traffic team or my local city council rep and file a formal complaint. If only I could do so without being considered a “Karen.”
Because you know that's exactly what they would call me.
