Recognize This Popular Disney Star-Turned Pop Star from WA State?
I am a huge fan of the Broadway hit, Hairspray. Back in 2015 I would listen to the Hairspray soundtrack on roadtrips. When NBC produced “Hairspray Live!” in 2016, my daughter and I watched it many, many times. She was only 5 at the time, but she loved that dang show.
We both hated the character of Amber Von Tussle. The character was brilliantly played by a young starlet named Dove Cameron. Little did I know that Dove was a popular Disney child star, and that she was from Bainbridge Island!
STRAIGHT OUTTA KITSAP
Dove grew up performing child actor roles in local community theater when she was 11. TV roles came a-calling for her by the time she was 16. She paid her dues and before her 18th birthday, she had her own show on the Disney Channel.
IMPRESSIVE, HONEY!
Dove played both of the twins in the Disney show called, Liv and Maddie. I suppose if I had been a tweenager during 2013 to 2017, I would have already known who Dove Cameron is.
By the time Dove Cameron turned 21, her time with Disney was over. She began acting in musicals (including Hairspray: Live!) doing voice work, and performing in Off-Broadway plays in New York City and London.
These days, Dove is busy working on her budding pop star career. Will she become the next Miley Cyrus? She just might, after all, she won an American Music Award for New Artist of the Year in 2022 and MTV VMA Best New Artist in 2023. Her song, Boyfriend, was one of BMI's most performed songs of the year.
Alchemical is Dove's latest upcoming album in Fall 2023.
