The Seattle Kraken snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Seattle's favorite NHL hockey team let a 1-to-nothing first-period lead slip away, as the Colorado Avalanche scored 5 unanswered goals to beat the Kraken at home 5 to 1 Monday night.

The Avalanche enjoy the top spot in the Central Division, while the Kraken are in 5th place in the Pacific Division behind The Golden Knights, Canucks, Kings, and Ducks.

What is the Seattle Kraken Mascot?

Buoy is the Seattle sea troll who inhabits the caverns of Climate Pledge Arena and for whom nothing beats a day filled with Kraken hockey and the team's fans. Buoy's favorite meal is Shark mixed with Duck and sprinkled with light Maple Leaf seasoning.

The reasoning behind Buoy being a troll is that he was inspired by the Fremont Troll, a public sculpture that is underneath the Aurora Bridge in Seattle. In fact, the Kraken claim that Buoy is the nephew of the Fremont Troll.

Why is the Kraken's mascot Not a Kraken?

Because a kraken is a mythical being whose complete appearance is unknown, the team chose not to use it as a mascot.

The team also opted not to have an octopus mascot, to avoid redundancy with Al the Octopus, the mascot of the Detroit Red Wings.
