It’s a May Day Tradition and The March is Back in Yakima

It's May Day and the annual May Day march is planned in Yakima Monday as people continue to stand for labor rights. COVID-19 put a damper on May Day marches over the past two years but the march is back this year.

THE MARCH STARTS AT 5:00 PM BUT A PRE-MEETING IS SET FOR 4:30 PM

The march starts at 5:00 pm Monday at the Henry Beauchamp Community Center, at 1211 S. Seventh Street. The march will travel East on Arlington Street to South Fair Avenue then to East Nob Hill Boulevard turning onto South First Street, and eventually East Arlington Street back to the community center.

SPEAKERS AND FAMILY ENTERTAINMENT PLANNED AFTER THE MARCH

A special program is planned at the center including family entertainment.
If you are going to the march you are urged to meet at 4:30 pm at the center for a pre-meeting. The march is expected to last about 1 hour.

THE MARCH IS BACK AFTER BEING CANCELLED BY COVID

Members of  La Casa Hogar in Yakima, Nuestra Casa in Sunnyside, Fair Work Center in Yakima, the Washington Immigrant Response Network in Yakima, and Families United for Justice will be part of the event.
The march was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic but now it's back and a lot of people are expected to be part of the event Monday.  2019 was the last time a march was held in the Yakima area. The marches have happened in Yakima for years with thousands participating.
