Do You Say I Do

Let me just say off the top that I'm not a big fan of movies that are built around a wedding theme.  Romantic comedies aren't my thing...unless it's a gladiator getting married to, oh, say, an alien...or pirate or maybe a spy!

That doesn't mean I'm against weddings. Sad to say I have had three, so I've already starred in a comedy - on a beach, a tragedy -in a courthouse, and now, at last, a fairy tale!

I have served as Master of Ceremonies for Yakima's Bridal Show a number of times and always thoroughly enjoyed meeting the future beautiful brides and nervous grooms.

And I have performed the wedding ceremony a few times as well.  Washington State allows for it so I have officiated at the weddings of my best friend, my mother-in-law, a former boss, my oldest daughter, a couple of co-workers, the former Chief of Police, former employees, and a few others who were at some of the other weddings I officiated and who liked my approach. (a little information and a lot entertaining)

Why Is June So Popular

So, why is June the popular wedding month...besides the weather?  According to Almanac online, you can thank or blame the ancient Romans

The goddess Juno (for whom June is named) was the protector of women in all aspects of life, but especially in marriage and childbearing, so a wedding in Juno’s month was considered most auspicious

So back to those wedding movies?  Do you have a favorite?  Apparently, google reveals search patterns show each state has a favorite.

America's Favorite Flicks

Overall, with 8 states in agreement, the  MOST popular wedding flick is...Mamma Mia, and no, I didn't see it.  If you did, leave a comment on why you think it's the favorite of so many romantics.  Other popular wedding movies include Steel Magnolias, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and Corpse Bride.

So what were the most popular wedding movies in the Pacific Northwest?

What's Washington's Choice

In Idaho, popcorn goes best with 27 Dresses.   In Oregon, it's My Best Friend's Wedding and Washington moviegoers agree, that My Best Friend's Wedding is best.

What does Martha Stewart say?  She says these are the 40 best wedding movies!
