Check out this weird, giant jellyfish that was recently seen floating around shores in Washington. The large coral-colored jellyfish was spotted floating in the water on a sunny day. They may look like weird, giant, harmless creatures but if you see a Lion's Mane jellyfish, do not touch it!

Reddit user, d_ennui, captured a short video of the unusual invertebrate and posted it with the caption, "A Lion's Mane Jellyfish in Edmonds Marina."

If you've ever visited an aquarium you may have seen a jellyfish exhibit but you likely did not see a Lion's Mane in there. We recently visited the Seattle Aquarium and they have quite a few jellyfish in their tank habitats. A memorable one that we saw is the spotted lagoon jellyfish. It is really gorgeous!

WHERE DO THE LION'S MANE JELLYFISH TYPICALLY LIVE?

Lion's Mane jellyfish love the cold sea, as typically found in parts of the Atlantic Ocean near the UK. In America, they tend to be seen living their best single lives near the Pacific Ocean areas of Alaska and in chilly water found near the Washington state coast. They also can be found on the East Coast of the United States, too.

FUN FACT: A Sherlock Holmes character reportedly died from being attacked by a Lion's Mane jellyfish. See the short story, "The Adventure of the Lion's Mane."

IS THE LION'S MANE JELLYFISH POISONOUS?

While a Lion's Mane jellyfish is not deadly if it stings you, there will be a lot of pain inside your body from their extremely long tentacles. You should avoid contact with one of these animals at all costs. A sting from one of them is guaranteed to be a very unpleasant experience.

WHAT SHOULD WE DO IF WE GET STUNG BY A LION'S MANE JELLYFISH?

Pour some vinegar on your wounds and if the pain gets unbearable you might need to go to the doctor. Fortunately, reported pain from Lion's Mane jellyfish attacks is temporary.

The moral of this story is, if you see a Lion's Mane jellyfish in Washington state or Alaska, don't touch it!
