How to Find Out How Much You Owe for WA State Student Loans
If you saw the news today that $10,000 of student loans were being forgiven for people making $125,000 a year or less, did your ears perk right on up like a dog? Are you wondering how to find out how much you owe for student loans in Washington state? So am I! I did some digging around to find out what website we need to go to find out what your outstanding Washington state student loan debt is and find out if you qualify for the cancellation of your student loans.
IF YOU TOOK OUT PELL GRANTS FOR YOUR STUDENT LOANS
If all of your student loans were Pell Grants, you might get up to $20,000 of your debt forgiven. Finding out how much you still owe on your student loans can allow you to take steps to restore your credit scores up to a great number, ensuring that you can qualify for home loans, car loans, extended credit, and lower interest rates on loans from banks and credit unions.
IF YOU DID NOT TAKE OUT PELL GRANTS FOR YOUR STUDENT LOANS
If your student loans are not Pell grants, you may qualify for a $10,000 debt forgiveness.
IF YOU HAVE HAD YOUR FEDERAL INCOME TAXES GARNISHED BECAUSE OF PAST-DUE STUDENT LOANS
If you have been victim to having your federal income taxes garnished by the U.S. Treasury for your past-due student loan debt and now qualify for the partial cancellation, you can now clear up your accounts and begin receiving your tax refunds again!
WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS TO GET SOME OF YOUR STUDENT LOAN DEBT CANCELED?
An application will be going out to those who qualify for student loan cancellations in the coming months before the end of the year. You can sign up for email notifications from the U.S. Department of Education here. Make sure to select the box that says, "Federal Student Loan Borrower Updates."
