I'm sure each of us has a certain piece of music that we absolutely love, maybe you can't identify it by name but anytime you catch it, you appreciate it. Mine is Pachelbel's Canon, there are so many different versions and each one is just so classy to me!

Since Covid-19 hit I've been following the Yakima Symphony Orchestra to see how they will handle this business. Concerts are not happening currently and a lot of people are turning to digital means to reach their fans, YSO included.

Coming up Saturday, July 23rd, 2020 there's Stories from Home, a special video series, this Saturday you can meet Yakima Symphony Orchestra Principal Double Bass Bren Plummer. The interview will be posted at 7:30 pm on their Facebook page and also on their website.

From Home is a special video series curated by the Yakima Symphony Orchestra. In Stories From Home, Maestro Lawrence Golan interviews YSO musicians who talk about favorite YSO performances and the upcoming season, share fun facts and perform short music selections. Music From Home features performance and education spots created by YSO musicians. Thank you to Valley Mall for their presentation of this wonderful series! Previously-posted interviews with other YSO musicians are readily viewable on our Video Collection page.

Auditions are right around the corner for the Yakima Youth Symphony Orchestra and also the Yakima Ensemble for the 20-21 Season. You can check out the full details at their website but here are the two options for trying out

  • Option #1: Audition live via Zoom on either Monday, July 27 or Monday, August 3. Time interval: 6:30 - 8:30pm. Sign up when you fill out the audition form. We will send you your audition time.
  • Option #2: Create and upload a video recording of an audition by August 7 at 11:59pm. Sign up when you fill out the audition form. We will send you details about recording and uploading the video.

I wish everyone that's interested in going for it loads of luck and in honor of orchestras and music. Have you seen the show Mozart in the Jungle? It's a good watch!

Or August Rush

Or the classic movie Mr. Holland's Opus
