It's another week into spring and another check on gas prices shows good news this week. Many people in Yakima are spending a lot of money on gas as life begins to return to normal under the COVID-19 restrictions.
Prices in Yakima are unchanged in the past week averaging $3.17/g today, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 91 stations in Yakima. If you've been to the gas station gas is 20.3 cents per gallon higher than last month and 44.2 cents per gallon more expensive than 1 year ago. Officials at GasBuddy say the cheapest gas in Yakima is priced at $2.74 and the most expensive price is $4.15 a gallon.
On the national side the price of gas has fallen 2.7 cents a gallon selling for an average of $2.84/g. That national average prices is up 12.9 cents a gallon from a month ago and the price is 87.5 cents per gallon more than a year ago. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy says
"After the feverish rise in gas prices to start the year, increases have largely tapered off and we're now seeing decreasing prices in most areas of the country, thanks to oil prices that have moderated for the time being," De Haan continues "stateside, refiners have made the switch to summer gasoline and price impacts have been limited thus far, but demand for gasoline remains strong. Last week saw total gasoline demand at yet another pandemic high according to GasBuddy data. As we approach warmer weather and motorists are increasingly getting outside, it could drive prices higher, so long as COVID-19 cases don't jump along with it and lead to new travel restrictions."
