Over the weekend, Grand Rapids was visited by a group from from across the state ofM Michigan, the Detroit Paranormal Expeditions. They wanted to visit Flanagan's Irish Pub, downtown on Pearl Street because they had heard stories of very strange things happening such as glasses and other items flying off shelves on their own. They had to find out for themselves.

Flanagan's is one of the oldest buildings still standing in downtown Grand Rapids, dating back to 1873. And, if you can get into the spooky basement, that is where some of the fun can begin.

Back in the day, under many buildings and streets downtown, there was a network of tunnels leading from one to another. Most have been filled in or bricked up by now, but who knows what may have happened down there? Whooooo....

The Flanagan's building has a rich history because this is the second building built on that spot. Before 1873, the original 14 Pearl Street location housed the Houseman and May's General Store, and on the second floor was Crane's Museum of Freaks, Snakes, and Whiskered Ladies. Talk about weird. However, that building mysteriously burned to the ground. Thus, the current building, The Rood Building, was built as it stands today.

But the Flannagan's building isn't the only haunted one downtown. Many people have commented that a window frame glows in the dark in the Flanagan's building. Another said:

that's not the creepy one. The Ledyard building basement made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. The Trust building is creepy too.

The Detroit Paranormal folks aren't sharing exactly what they found yet, but they said there were definitely some strange vibes and that they will be back for a deeper study, probably at night when things go BUMP in the night!
