Five Celebrated Seattle Athletes That Deserve Their Own Statue

Seattle's become home to some of the most talented athletes in professional sports. All of our teams have had legendary players, some I would even say deserve their own statue. I thought why not make a list and see if people agree with me.

Before we get started I know in order for this to be a five-player list we're gonna miss out on some greats. The best part is if you don't you can always send me your argument on who deserves their very own statue and we'll change this list up and make sure to keep it updated.

Sue Bird The Seattle Storm

Sue Bird is a four-time WNBA champion with the Seattle Storm, if anyone has earned a statue in Seattle it's Bird. She's lead her team to victory countless times and always puts her team first. She's a leader, role model, and someone that takes pride in their city.

Steve Largent The Seattle Seahawks

A household name in Washington state all throughout the mid-'70s and 80's Steve Largent was one of the first players for the Seahawks to be taken 8th pick in the expansion draft. Largent was deemed one of the best wide receivers in the league and was able to back it up time and time again even earning awards to be named after him. Largent is still a Seattle sports legend to this day and deserves his place in Seattle history with his own statue.

Gary Payton Seattle Supersonics

If you lived in Washington you've at least heard this name in passing...if you're an NBA fan you know why this name is carved into Seattle sports history. Payton was a Seattle Super Sonic and the best point guard we ever had, we were lucky enough to have taken him as our first-round draft pick. Payton would quickly develop his skills and be considered one of the top players in the NBA. Payton also dedicated his time to multiple charities such as the Bill and Melinda gates foundation, free the children, and food for orphans. We would be lucky to have him cemented in Seattle history.

Russell Wilson Seattle Seahawks

Taking us to our first Superbowl win and continuing to be a leader on and off the field, Russel is a Seattle icon. He's also part-owner of the Seattle Sounders planting himself further in the PNW. Russell has continued to inspire many with his faith and love of the game. Russel dedicates a large amount of time to the Make A Wish Foundation and helping support Seattle Children's hospital and any chance he can. Russell will forever and always be a Seattle legend on and off the field, why not give him his own statue?

Marshawn Lynch Seattle Seahawks

Marshawn was with the Seahawks for quite a while, hawk fans quickly drew their attention to Marshawn for his skills on the field and his intoxicating personality off the field. Marshawn embodies strength, power, determination, and kindness. He became a legend in his own right after what's now known as the "Beast Quake". Marshawn had made a 67-yard touchdown breaking over nine tackles and jumping backward in the N-zone grabbing his...well you've seen it. Marshawn helped take us to our first Superbowl victory and helped set the stage for the Seahawks being viewed as a top-tier team in the NFL. His outreach program has helped hundreds of kids if not thousands more dealing with hardships in life. He continues to give back to his community and rep Seattle any chance he gets.
