Maurice White, the legendary founder and leader of the six-time Grammy-winning group Earth, Wind & Fire died Wednesday (Feb. 3) in his Los Angeles-area home.

Formed in the late '60s, EWF -- as many called the group -- was influenced by White's background of being raised in the Memphis area and his work with Chicago music labels Chess & Okeh.

Earth, Wind & Fire hits like "September," Shining Star," "Boogie Wonderland" led to the induction of the group into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in 2000.

White was also honored with an induction into the Songwriting Hall of Fame in 2010.
