COVID Cancels Yakima MLK March and Program
The Yakima City Council Tuesday is expected to proclaim January 18 King Day of Service in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. And for the last 30-years the National Martin Luther King Jr. holiday has been marked by the annual Peace Walk in downtown Yakima. But for the first time ever the march has been cancelled by COVID. Organizers met and decided not to hold the walk and a special program at the Yakima Convention Center that traditionally follows the annual walk. Large crowds or gatherings are not allowed under the current COVID-19 restrictions.
Instead of the walk the organizers plan a week of activities that won't call for large crowds leading up to the national holiday of January 18 to honor civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
