More than 40 wineries up and down the Yakima Valley are preparing for another great spring and summer of wine making and tasting. The next big celebration is the upcoming Red Wine and Chocolate event that happens in February where valley wines are coupled with special chocolate.

Lots of people in Yakima love Washington wines

The Washington wine industry generates billions of dollars for the state economy every year. The reason why sales are so lucrative is because people love Washington wine and if that's you you may soon be able to show that love on your vehicle.
A personalized license plate honoring the Washington state wine industry is the aim of a bill in Olympia. According to officials from Yakima Tourism Representative Kelly Chambers (R-Puyallup) will continue to pursue legislation (House Bill 1530) that creates a Washington wine specialty license plate which directs proceeds to State of Washington Tourism (the recently rebranded Washington Tourism Alliance) and its statewide tourism marketing and industry recovery programs.

The plate won't become a reality without your signature on a petition

But the license plate won't become a reality without major support. Yakima Tourism officials say "in order to demonstrate demand for the license plates there is a requirement of collecting 3,500 signatures. Rep. Chambers is hoping to get those signatures in the coming days."

Yakima Tourism officials say they appreciate Rep. Chambers leadership and the significant work of the Washington Wine Commission and Washington Wine Institute in promoting the legislation and petition signatures.
