Listen to Unreleased Bruce Springsteen Song ‘I’ll Stand by You’
Bruce Springsteen has unveiled a previously unreleased song, “I’ll Stand by You,” in association with the new movie Blinded by the Light.
The piece was written for the 2001 film Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone but wasn’t included in the final production. It instead appears on the soundtrack to the 2019 feature based on Sarfraz Manzoor’s memoir, Greetings From Bury Park: Race, Religion and Rock N’ Roll.
The movie explores the story of a young British Muslim whose search for self-identity is fueled by his discovery of Springsteen’s music. You can listen to “I’ll Stand by You” below.
The Boss made a surprise appearance at the U.S. premiere of the film in his hometown of Asbury Park, N.J., earlier this week. He performed four songs with old sparring partners Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. He didn't attend the movie’s European premiere, even though he received an invitation from director Gurinder Chadha.
"He didn’t want to take away from the movie,” she said recently, adding that she screened Blinded by the Light for him personally in 2018, and was told, “Thank you for looking after me so beautifully. Don’t change a thing; it’s perfect.”
She also noted that author Manzoor has seen Springsteen "150 times, so much so that Bruce recognizes him at concerts, because he’s probably the only Pakistani in the audience, and he’s got a big afro."
Blinded by the Light arrives in theaters on Aug. 16.
