Looking On The Bright Side...Works

That's a pretty positive way to start this off.  We're talking about optimism here...looking on the bright side of things and what kind of benefits that positivity can secure.
KIT Radio Newsman Lance Tormey just had a birthday and he doesn't really like having birthdays.  He doesn't see the fun in them as much as he experiences the sense of time slipping away.  I get it. I used to be that way too.  I'm sure a lot of us are,  BUT I guess I should get him a copy of this new study for his birthday present!
The study basically says "look on the bright side" of aging and you just might wind up doing more of it!

Optimism Pays Off

"Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive, good things and good people will be drawn to you." -- Mary Lou Retton

CNN reports on a new study that shows that higher levels of optimism are associated with a greater chance of living past 90. The study of 160,000 people of various backgrounds found that these results were significant even when health conditions, socioeconomic status, and poor diet were taken into account.  How about that?  Be positive and MAKE it happen!

Turns out that optimists tend to believe they have control over their fate and opportunities, and it's estimated that about 25% of our outlook is determined by genetics...meaning we may be able to train ourselves to be more positive.

" Once you replace your negative thought with positive ones, you'll start getting positive results!"  -- Willie Nelson
