Mandy Moore Reveals Both Brothers Are Gay, Mom Left Dad for a Woman
With the runaway success of NBC's This Is Us, Mandy Moore is, mercifully, back in the spotlight; one of the few precious gifts 2016 has awarded us amid countless blows to our general happiness.
And while Moore's reemergence in the public eye has not blessed us with a follow-up to 2009's Amanda Leigh (yet, anyway), it has provided the opportunity to get to know her better — including some statistically unique details about her immediate family.
In an interview with Byrdie, the "Walk Me Home" singer-songwriter-actress revealed why she never once felt pressure to conform to a traditional family life.
“I’ve never really talked about this...but my parents are divorced. My mother left my father for a woman. And both of my two brothers are gay.”
As we in the queer community like to say: that's a lotta gay.
“My parents loved each other; they did an incredible job raising all of us," she went on to say, explaining that everyone in her family is now “exactly where they should be. Everyone’s so much happier, richer, and more fulfilled, being their authentic selves.”
Mandy's remained an outspoken same-sex marriage advocate over the years — no doubt because she's a LGBT icon by genetic default.
Back in 2009, she was "shocked" by the passage of 2008's Proposition 8 in California: "My older brother and his boyfriend got married right before the election just in case things ended up going the way that they did, and I think my family was all the more disappointed that things went the way that they did with the decision," she told The Advocate.
"#Lovewon," she wrote when marriage equality passed in all 50 states last year.
But here's the real question: will she release new music anytime soon to prove her love for her gay fans? Only time will tell.
Until then, we'll always have this.
And most importantly, THIS.
