Eww! Are These The Moldiest Cities In Washington?

Black Mold is one of the few things when I’m cleaning; I don’t mess around with it!

Back in the early 90s, one of those ‘News Magazine’ TV shows like 60 Minutes or Dateline did an entire segment on the topic, and it scared the crap out of me.

Even to this day, all these years later, it’s still a topic of worry.

When I was looking for a place to live, and now that I own my home, I do my best to keep it clean and prevent it from growing.

Although, according to The Cleveland Clinic, "black mold isn't any more dangerous than any other types of mold."

It is a type of fungus that can grow and can release more spores, which could cause health issues, especially if you have an mold allergies.

Health issues that could arise:

Respiratory issues
Eye Irritations
Fatigue
Rashes
Hives
Headaches
& More!

It can grow in places that are warm with moisture and even food.

Houses with water damage and poor ventilation can be the perfect recipe for it to grow, especially in bathrooms.

The easiest way to lessen the risk of black mold is to simply clean your house regularly (especially areas with water).

Decrease moisture in your house (use an exhaust fan and open windows).

If you notice any leaks or water damage, get it fixed as soon as possible.

Thankfully, in Washington, we do have some cities that made the top 150 Moldiest Cities, but only 3!

Combining Climate and environmental data from several sources and surveying 3,000 homeowners about their black mold experience, DEYE ranked the moldiest cities.

Seattle, Tacoma, and Spokane made the list, but luckily, none were in the top 10!

Seattle was the moldiest, coming in at #26 (which does make sense, being so close to the ocean).

Followed by Tacoma at #59 and Spokane ranking at #90.

And The Rattiest City in Washington is...

Is anyone surprised that the moldiest city is located in Florida? Keep that in mind on your next visit to Fort Lauderdale!
