Walmart has issued a recall of frozen shrimp under the warning that it could be 'radioactive,' so let's see which states are impacted, which frozen shrimp are involved, and how in the world there could be radioactive shrimp in America.

USDA and Walmart Issue Nationwide Frozen Shrimp Recall

The Food and Drug Administration is advising the public not to eat certain Great Value frozen shrimp. The shrimp were caught and processed at a facility in Indonesia and could contain the radioactive element Cesium-137 (Cs-137).

In the light of precaution, shoppers who bought the following should discard these shrimp packages:

  • Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005540-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027
  • Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005538-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027
  • Great Value brand frozen raw shrimp, lot code: 8005539-1, Best by Date: 3/15/2027.

States that are affected by the Great Value Radioactive Frozen Shrimp Recall include:

  • Alabama
  • Arkansas
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Kentucky
  • Louisiana
  • Missouri
  • Mississippi
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • Texas
  • West Virginia

Even though residents in Washington State and Oregon have not been added to the FDA's recall list, those of us with family members in the affected states should reach out and give them the warning.
