Performance Park, 100 Pendleton Way, Yakima, WA 98901

12pm-1pm

It is Stand Against Racism week and the YWCA hosting over 400 local events (14 of those events are being held in Washington state) around the country, encouraging community interaction and engagement to combat the lingering remnants of racism in America.

The YWCA of Yakima will host a free lunch open to the public at their annual "Stand Against Racism" event. The fête will host youth speakers, a reading a Yakima City Council Proclamation, a pledge card signing and lots of mingling with your fellow community members. Food and beverages provided while supplies last.

Here is a preview of the 2018 YWCA Stand Against Racism pledge:

"YWCA is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, stand up for social justice, help families, and strengthen communities. I am taking a stand against racism with YWCA and hundreds of thousands of people across the country, join us this week during YWCA’s annual Stand Against Racism – and every day."

The YWCA website suggests three key ways an individual can help eliminate racism in their community:

Serve: Volunteering your time on community service Boards, after school programs, and running for office.

Elect: Educating others about registering to vote, volunteering at voter registration booths, or participating in election campaigns of candidates who are committed to eliminating racism in your community.

Organize: Studying community issues and the legislative policies that impact those who experience structural and institutional racism, becoming an advocate and participating in public hearings at the state Capitol, and demanding accountability of local, Congressional and Senate representatives.
