West Valley Voters Asked To Support Bond

Voters in the West Valley School District will be asked to support a bond issue in February to help ease congestion and create more space. Mike Brophy the Superintendent of West Valley Schools says the $59 million bond would pay for the replacement of Apple Valley and Summitview elementary schools. "We want to build two schools to increase capacity to 550 students per school, eliminating portables and using our gyms as classrooms."
And he says they want to improve safety. He says it's very tough to control potential intruder access because of the age of the current schools.
Brophy says the district is now operating out of 17 portables at five of its six elementary schools. The Bond is expected to appear on the February 12 ballot in Yakima County.
Brophy is hoping voters support the bond that the district has been trying to pass since 2009.
