The taping of the 2016 BET Hip Hop Awards went down last night (Sept 17.) at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre outside of Atlanta and featured West Coast OG Snoop Dogg being honored and performances from Gucci Mane, T.I. and 2016 XXL Freshman Desiigner.

Uncle Snoop took home one of the most prestigious honors, the "I Am Hip-Hop" award. Accepting his trophy humbly he encouraged young rappers to keep pushing the culture forward. "To all the young rappers in the game, a lot of people don't understand you. Y'all are misunderstood," he said with Kendrick Lamar watching at his side. "I was misunderstood at the beginning. So you got to keep pushing, be original and diverse. Hip-hop was created many years ago and it's taken people so many places. You have to be who you are."

Lamar later acknowledged The Doggfather's contributions to the game. "He mastered the game through tests and challenges that earned him the respect of a college professor, except his game came from the streets," Lamar said. "He put (me) on game, so I would avoid the same pitfalls. ... Snoop Dogg was the God, and continues to be so."

Other people taking home awards included Fat Joe and Remy Ma scooping up Track of the Year with "All The Way Up," Chance The Rapper scoring Best New Hip-Hop Artist and K. Dot earning Lyricist of the Year.

And of course, there were the cyphers which should be entertaining when they drop in full as they featured Kevin Hart spitting bars as his alter ego Chocolate Droppa.

Most of the night had a serious tone, however, with a militant looking T.I. performing "We Will Not" amidst a Black Lives Matter backdrop and Big K.R.I.T. and Lecrae spitting poems on the matter, among the number of meditative moments.

Desiigner shut the show down with a performance of his viral XXL Freshman Freestyle aka "Timmy Turner."

Hosted by DJ Khaled, the show will air on BET on Oct. 4.
