With Super Troopers 2 in production since last week, it seems they have some room for a new cast member. Fresh out of the Comedy Central Roast char-griller, Rob Lowe has joined the cast of the film ready to serve up some Canadian border patrol antics.

According to Deadline, Lowe will play “Guy Le Franc, a former hockey player and the current mayor of a Quebec Canadian border town.” The film will again be helmed by Jay Chandrasekhar of Broken Lizard, the comedy group made up of Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske, who all starred in the first one.

The group posted this first look photo of the crew with Lowe:

This will be a treat for the fans, who we know are pretty passionate, given the success of the film’s crowdfunding Indiegogo campaign. A number of other stars are also returning to the project, with Brian Cox and Marisa Coughlan reprising their roles, as well as former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter.

We can only hope that, given the iffy success of comedy sequels like Zoolander 2, Anchorman 2, and Dumb and Dumber To, Super Troopers 2 will fare a little better. The Broken Lizard team will have to couple the nostalgia for the original with fresh, new jokes in the sequel in order for this to be a hit.

Super Troopers 2 does not currently have a release date, but it’s looking like the movie will hit theaters sometime in 2017.
