This is an unusual traveling companion.

Police in Brisbane, Australia found a koala bear that a woman was carrying in a canvas bag after they arrested her on "outstanding matters."

The arrest took place Sunday night.

The woman, 50, told officers she found the animal, believed to be six months old and weighing a dainty 3.3 pounds, the night before and had decided to care for it herself.

The koala, which was is in good condition and has since been named Alfred, was placed in the custody of animal welfare authorities.
