Harry Potter’s Childhood Home in Godric’s Hollow Is for Sale

Sure, your Hogwarts letter still hasn’t come in the mail yet, but that doesn’t mean all is lost. Maybe your latent magical abilities need a kick-start — maybe you should try to talk to a few more snakes, or try to charm a few more brooms. Or maybe it requires living in a place long associated with wizards and magic, like, say, Harry Potter’s childhood home in the wizard neighborhood of Godric’s Hollow, which has just been put on the market for anyone who’s got $1.3 million burning a hole in their pocket.

De Vere House, which was used as the exterior of James and Lily Potter’s home during filming of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, has been listed for sale on real estate site Carter Jonas. The listing explains that the actual house has no relationship to any wizarding families (haha, yeah, sure), and is in fact a medieval home owned by the wealthy De Vere family from the 14th to the 17th century. The listing also notes the fun fact that ancestor Edward de Vere is one of the authors many truthers think actually wrote Shakespeare’s plays.

In the Potter universe, Harry’s childhood home is the house where his parents were murdered by Voldemort, and Godric’s Hollow was home to Godric Gryffindor and the Dumbledore family, whose tragic past was introduced through flashbacks in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. It’s also the site of that scene where Harry and Hermione Granger go to visit old family friend Bathilda Bagshot, who turns out to be just a husk housing Nagini, Voldemort’s huge snake, in pretty much the most terrifying scene I had ever read in a book and I will never be over it.

In reality, De Vere House’s six-bedroom property has a reception hall, drawing room, sitting room, dining room and two kitchens, and actually looks quite cozy on the outside (the exterior was dirtied up for the movie). So, should I pay in galleons, or is a check okay?
