Yakima got to reconnect with two of its favorite bands Thursday night -- and Camille Bloom and Snug Harbor brought the kind of joy that only old friends can understand.

The globe-trotting Bloom, who has completed 30 national and international tours and performed in nine countries with her group, kicked things off with the ease and intimacy of a Saturday morning conversation over coffee. But as the sun set and the temperature cooled, she and her group heated up, delivering an amped-up menu of indie rock that had North Front Street swaying along happily.

Then it was time for the brass to take command. And Bellingham-based Snug Harbor strode the stage like bosses, summoning soulful funk from the speakers and ordering the faithful to their feet for another memorable night of grinding groove.

By the end of the evening, it was tough to find anybody standing still -- and tougher still to find anyone who wasn't looking forward to the next time they could get together with these two tight bands.

Sadly, as the nights get longer, the time grows shorter, and with just two more concerts left, Downtown Summer Nights is winding down.
