Days After Comic-Con Confusion, United Says Comic Books Are Not a Flight Hazard
United just can’t catch a break these days. Between the awkwardness of #LeggingsGate and that passenger who got literally dragged from the plane by TSA agents, you’d think the airline would learn to tread softly in the following months, especially during an event as stressful and crazy as Comic Con. But passengers heading back from the convention on Sunday who had spent the event loading up on pristine first editions and omnibuses of their favorite comics were dismayed when a message popped up on TV screens at the United check-in line: “Remove all books from checked bags.”
‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’ 4K Re-Release Trailer: Those Five Musical Notes Will Still Make You Tear Up
Close Encounters of the Third Kind will forever be one of sci-fi cinema’s most lasting cultural touchstones. One of Spielberg’s best, it’s a beautiful tale of wonder, obsession, and humanity’s relationship with the rest of the cosmos. It’s the kind of movie that posits that, rather than conquer us, all aliens really want to do is be our friends, and it’s coming back to theaters this September in a gorgeous 4K re-release.
Charlie Sheen’s ‘9/11’ Trailer Is… Well, It’s Here
It was kind of inevitable that noted 9/11 truther Charlie Sheen would make a movie about that day, but it’s a little surprising that not only Gina Gershon, but Whoopi Goldberg would both agree to star in it. Not surprising: the trailer for Sheen’s 9/11 is shockingly, impressively bad.
Moms Have Some Funny Ways of Sneaking More Netflix Into Their Busy Days
While Netflix guards their viewership data like a jealous dragon, they’re certainly not averse to releasing plenty of other demographic information, such as what activities moms do while they’re watching their favorite female wrestling comedies. The streaming giant collected the data from an extremely scientific, randomly selected group of moms, who said they often had to make some “me time” for their Netflix (71%), and that they wished they had more time to watch the shows they love (97%).
John Williams Won’t Be Scoring Spielberg’s ‘Ready Player One,’ But Is Still Onboard ‘The Papers’
John Williams is one of Steven Spielberg’s most frequent collaborators, and earlier this year he was set to score both of the director’s upcoming movies: Pentagon Papers drama The Papers and pop culture-infused sci-fi Ready Player One. But because both of these movies are being put together at about the same time (Ready Player One’s production began last year, and The Papers was filmed this spring in a matter of weeks for a December release) Williams has had to give up scoring duties on the latter in favor of the former.
Woody Harrelson Hangs Out With Han and Chewie in New ‘Han Solo’ Set Photos
We haven’t seen too much of the Han Solo movie, except for all that hot goss about why Phil Lord and Chris Miller left the project, but the set photos have been trickling in. Yesterday, a couple pictures surfaced from the set of our young Han (Alden Ehrenreich), Chewbacca, and Woody Harrelson’s mysterious character together and in costume on set.
Watch Peter Parker’s Secret Vlog of ‘Civil War’ Ahead of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’
Kids these days, always plugged in to their smartphones and laptops and Instagrams, constantly suffering from the compulsion to record every aspect of their lives. For a superhero, this is probably a bad idea, given the whole secret identity thing and all — but our new Peter Parker is very much a millennial, and he’s going to vlog this whole thing if it kills him.
Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey Look Like Rom-Com Frenemies in the New ‘Dark Tower’ International Poster
You know those early 2000s romantic comedies that always had the two leads standing back-to-back with “WELP” expressions on their faces on the DVD covers? Imagine that, but with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey and you’ve got the newest international poster for The Dark Tower.
‘Wonder Woman,’ Unsurprisingly, Is Now the Highest-Grossing DCEU Movie
We all knew Wonder Woman was going to be a box office hit — passing $1 million in its opening weekend, becoming the highest-grossing female-directed live-action film ever made shortly after that — and how it’s shattered a new record. Wonder Woman is now the highest-grossing movie of the DC Extended Universe, passing Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman in box office sales.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Featurette: Tony Stark Is the Coolest. Mentor. Ever.
One of the most charming aspects of Captain America: Civil War was the relationship between Tony Stark and Peter Parker, the Avengers’ youngest, spunkiest recruit. It”ll be fun to see their friendship blossom in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and a new featurette delves a little deeper into their hilarious mentor-mentee dynamic.
