Anne Rice’s ‘Vampire Chronicles’ Series Picked Up by Hulu
After Josh Boone’s plans for a new Vampire Chronicles film adaptation (possibly starring Jared Leto) fell through, Paramount and Anne Rice decided to take the author’s beloved novel franchise to the small screen. Last year, the studio announced that it had optioned the rights to Rice’s 11-book collection for a new TV series, which has been officially picked up by Hulu.
Marvel Has Finally Found Its ‘Black Widow’ Director!
Although Marvel sure did drag their feet on the way to committing to the Black Widow movie, we gotta give credit where credit’s due: The studio was very thorough in finding the right director to take on Scarlett Johansson’s highly-anticipated solo film. Over the course of several months, Marvel met with 70-ish female directors before making their final selection. And the director of Black Widow is… (make up your own drumroll, please)
Neill Blomkamp Is Directing a New ‘RoboCop’ Movie (Yes, There’s Another One)
It’s only been four years since Sony’s attempt to reboot RoboCop with Joel Kinnaman as the cop-turned-crime-fighting-cyborg — though you’d be forgiven if you’ve already forgotten the bland remake of Paul Verhoeven’s satirical 1987 sci-fi classic. That might be an advantage for MGM, which is plotting a new RoboCop movie with District 9 and Chappie director Neill Blomkamp at the helm.
‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Enlists ‘Americans’ Star Keri Russell
Well here’s one piece of Star Wars casting news that just couldn’t wait until the end of the day (thankfully!): Keri Russell is reportedly the first official newcomer to sign on for Star Wars: Episode IX, which is heading into production at the end of this month with J.J. Abrams back at the helm. It’s also a fairly major reunion, as Russell previously starred in the long-running hit series Felicity (created by Abrams) and Mission: Impossible III (directed by Abrams).
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Casts Miles Teller as Tom Cruise’s New Protege
That was quick. Just last week it was reported that Paramount and Skydance were eyeing a trio of actors to potentially play a key role opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick: Miles Teller, Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult were all in the running for the part of Goose’s son, and it looks like the powers that be have already selected Cruise’s co-pilot.
