‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Boss Doubts Any ‘Inhumans’ Crossover

There’s a strange irony in the fact that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been playing in Inhuman waters for three seasons, only to have the major Inhumans themselves now coming to ABC. We don’t yet know if the series will coexist on the network, but bosses say not to expect S.H.I.E.L.D. hanging out with Black Bolt anytime soon.

Even as the divide between Marvel TV and movies grows wider every day, The Inhumans will be keeping to their own IMAX and ABC corner, says S.H.I.E.L.D. executive producer Jed Whedon. As he tells DigitalSpy, the two Marvel series will only share a universe in the abstract sense, at least for now:

Without being able to say anything really about that show, it will have its own world, just as we tried to start our own world. Whether or not there’s a crossover, we will see.

Everything is connected, and that’s fun to play with. But the point of our show is to be our show, and we want our fans to be rewarded for watching it without having to watch everything else … But we also want there to be a bigger reward for people who watch all of them, so that they’ll start to see that there’s lines connecting it. It’s more fun for people who are playing the whole game, but if you don’t, you’ll still have a great rollercoaster ride.

The largely Hawaii-set series also won’t utilize any of the same Inhuman VFX designed for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., though fans have spotted some of the same writing and language on set, given its origins in the comics. ABC brass are at least optimistic both series will share the network, and Whedon previously told Entertainment Weekly they weren’t thinking of Season 4 as the last:

We are going to make it a thrilling end regardless, but we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
